SATANIC WARMASTER's Werwolf on Nastrond's 'Toteslaut'

What god creates... Man can destroy... As it says in the booklet of the CD, this is what Nastrond's debut album did for myself to a very high degree. For myself Nastrond has always been one of the few bands that have truly taken the context of the Occult within Black Metal one step further from just being one of the necessary parts that reflect into the aesthetics around the music. The band's frontman Karl NE, aside from his musical career has also excelled in writing and publishing various texts dealing with various topics, as well as being one of the best painters I've seen to emerge from the Black Metal circles.

Born in 1993, Nastrond brought together themes that I hold personally very close and that have been a part of my life for many years also.

"Toteslaut" is a cruel masterpiece. The cold and gruesome, yet clear production makes the album sound like a morbid symphony captured from an old dungeon that calls you to travel far on the trail of death worship without a wish to return. The disharmonic riffing and eerie keyboards create a feeling not many bands can (and most likely don't want to) reach. Even though the lyrics were never printed for this album, the album's themes are not a mystery. Songs like "En Sang Fran En Pestbesmittad Grav", "Lord of the Woods" and "Ja Ma Kali" kindle the flame that hold's it's purest essence in the secrets of death worship, necromancy and vampyric magick.

For me there is nothing but dark perfection on this album that has been forgotten by most people, and will not most likely please everyone due to its unique sound and the utter cruelty of the compositions. However, for me, this piece of darkness reflects the purest essence of Black Metal. May the rotten bones absorb life again...
